Leifert & Leifert represented a client charged in Broward County with multiple registration and temporary tag-related offenses arising from a traffic stop conducted by the Seminole Police Department in Hollywood, Florida. The client faced allegations involving improper registration, temporary tag misuse, and expired registration issues relating to a Mazda passenger vehicle operated near Stirling Road and State Road 7.
According to the traffic citations and related court records, law enforcement alleged that the vehicle displayed a temporary tag that was improperly assigned or expired and further alleged that the client failed to properly register the vehicle under Florida law. Officers additionally cited the client for:
- Failure to Register Vehicle pursuant to Fla. Stat. §320.02(1),
- Abuse or Misuse of a Temporary Tag to Avoid Registration Requirements pursuant to Fla. Stat. §320.131(5),
- and Expired Tag Less Than Six Months pursuant to Fla. Stat. §320.07(3)(a).
The allegations exposed the client to potentially significant consequences, including: - criminal traffic convictions,
- financial penalties,
- court costs,
- driver’s license consequences,
- and complications relating to future vehicle registration and insurance matters.
After being retained, Leifert & Leifert, through attorney Brian S. Leifert, Esq., immediately worked to correct the underlying compliance issues forming the basis of the citations. The defense gathered documentation establishing that the client had taken steps to properly resolve the registration concerns and lawfully comply with Florida vehicle registration requirements.
As part of the defense strategy, Leifert & Leifert formally filed a Notice of Filing Florida Dealer Registration with the Broward County Court and provided the supporting documentation to the State Attorney’s Office. The filing included proof demonstrating that the vehicle registration and dealer-related documentation had been corrected and brought into compliance.
The defense emphasized:
- the client’s prompt corrective action,
- proof of valid registration compliance,
- lack of criminal intent,
- and the fact that the client had remedied the issues underlying the traffic citations.
Following the filing of the compliance documentation and continued defense advocacy, the Broward County Court ultimately dismissed / favorably resolved the charges after proof was shown to the Court. The disposition records specifically reflected that valid proof had been provided resolving the cited deficiencies.
RESULT: After Leifert & Leifert presented proof of compliance and filed supporting Florida dealer registration documentation, the charges were dismissed / resolved favorably without criminal penalties.
OUTCOME: The client avoided criminal convictions, minimized financial penalties, and prevented the long-term consequences associated with temporary tag and registration-related offenses. By promptly correcting the compliance issues and presenting supporting documentation to the Court and prosecution, the defense was able to secure a favorable resolution without prolonged litigation.
